Last week I was lucky enough to go to the MAC Liptensity launch event at the West Quay MAC counter in Southampton with Soton Bloggers and Team Southampton. It feels like I say this all the time but anyone who knows me knows that lipstick is my jam so of course I was freaking out when I realised MAC were releasing a new range of lipsticks including a black and a blue! Nothing excites me more than brands I love branching out into new and weird things.
The Liptensity Range
At the event they had all 24 from the Liptensity range (£17.50 each), all of which have a creamy satin formula which applies really nicely. I got to try on the Blue Beat which is a nice dark petrol blue and watched a few of the others try on some – I think Cordovan was my favourite as it seemed to have the best colour payoff and was a gorgeous rosy red. There are a few things I’m not keen on with the Liptensity range which disappointed me a bit, but they are mainly just personal preference – I prefer matte formulas to satin and I prefer a pointed bullet to a round one! A couple of the darker shades were a bit patchy too, but nothing a good lip liner couldn’t sort out.
Red Brick Eyeshadow
As well as meeting some awesome new people and having a fab time, I took the opportunity to grab the Red Brick eyeshadow (£13) for myself. This is the first MAC eyeshadow I’ve bought and I’m not disappointed yet. I’ve been really getting into grungey eyeshadow looks and I’ve been searching for the perfect orangey-red for months. I love Red Brick because it’s both matte and vibrant, as well as blending like butter.
I’ve been using this pretty much every day I’ve worn makeup since I bought it and I love it. It blends really nicely and is easy to layer the colour without primer, but obviously looks better with a primer. I use Benefit’s That Gal as an eyeshadow primer which works really well for me and holds eyeshadow in place all day (including through naps, of which I take many). The top swatch is without primer and the bottom is with That Gal!
We also got a few testers in our goodie bags from the event – I’ve used Volcanic Ash and Natural Radiance so far and I was hoping not to love them because dolla, but I really do. I’m strongly trying to resist the urge to go back and buy myself some Volcanic Ash…
Just as a bonus, here’s a photo of all the awesome gals at the Liptensity event (taken from the Team Southampton insta) including me looking grumpy on the end but rocking Blue Beat on my lips!
