I’m a huge lipstick junkie but if there’s one shade I don’t have enough of, it’s red. For some reason I always feel more comfortable in a weird shade like blue or green than I do normal colours like pink or red, but I really wanted to try out the new NYX Powder Puff lipsticks so grabbed one in the shade Group Love.
NYX describe the Powder Puff lippies as a mousey lipstick which dries to a powdery finish – by that description, I was expecting a pretty similar formula to the Soft Matte Lip Creams. The applicator is a pillowy cushion sponge, and you squeeze the product out so it’s really easy to control how bold you make the colour. The Powder Puff lipsticks retail for £8 each, which is a little more than NYX’s lip products usually cost but is totally worth the extra couple of quid.
I have found that the width of the applicator makes it a little bit hard to get a clean cut line but it makes for a really nice, natural, blended look. The product itself is really smooth to apply and the fact that you squeeze the product out makes the colour really buildable – a tiny bit of product creates a soft tint but the colour is really easy to layer.
Honestly, the Powder Puff is one of the most comfortable lipsticks I’ve ever worn. The colour stays for hours and fades really evenly so you don’t end up with any patches or the dreaded butthole lip, but the lipstick itself doesn’t really dry out – more settles to a luxurious velvety finish and stays like that, almost like a powdery balm. I have to say I’m not absolutely crazy over the shade Group Love – I prefer a slightly darker red and feel like this one is just a smidge too light for me, but I do like it and think it’s a really nice daytime red.
I’ve definitely added a few more shades of this formula to my wishlist, including Moody, Cool Intentions and Squad Goals – while there are only 8 shades in the range so far, they’re all gorgeous!
