A Little Life Update | Summer 2019

Hi! It’s me.

It’s been a while, I know. To be honest, I’ve been having such a good summer that I’ve just not been bothered about writing or posting, and I’m not mad about that. But given that summer 2019 is nearly over, I thought I’d sit down and catch you up on what’s been going on.

I’ve done SO MUCH this summer. Where do I even start?

I quit my job, went to four festivals, turned 24 and became an aunt. There’s a life update for you! I’ll tackle it bit by bit, as there’s been a lot.

Festivals

My festivals of 2019 were Slam Dunk, All Points East, Download and Reading. I never actually got around to posting about Download or Reading, but I had a great time at both. Despite the rain Download was still a great time, and despite feeling like one of the oldest 5% of people at Reading, that was also a blast. The lineup at Reading was probably in my top 3 festival lineups I’ve ever seen so I had an incredible time really just enjoying the music more than anything else.

Birthday

I turned 24 in June! I honestly had one of the best birthday weeks that I’ve ever had. I went to Portsmouth Pride, got to chill with all my best mates, had a really fun night out and went to a cabaret show hosted by Joe Black. My mum also came to visit for the weekend which was nice as she hadn’t been to visit for a while. Really couldn’t have asked for a better birthday if I tried.

Life In General

I quit my job. That’s big and scary and exciting and nerve wracking and a whole lot of other adjectives to be honest. I’m hopefully going to be moving into a sector doing something where I can really make a difference and do something I care about – I’ll post more on this when I can.

My sister also had a baby, which means I’ve become an aunt. Everyone who knows me knows I hate children. Now, I don’t mean to alarm anyone, but I would actually die for that tiny human. It doesn’t mean I’ve changed my mind about never wanting kids of my own, and no I’m not becoming broody, but I do love that little smush. And I can hand them back when their nappy needs changing, which is fine by me.

Aside from that, I’ve really just been loving life. I’ve had weekends filled with spending as much time with my friends and family as I can. I’ve been spending a lot of time off the internet, getting outside and trying to live in the moment, which was one of the recommendations from my therapist last year. I think it’s done me a lot of good. I’ve still got a lot of work to do, but I’m moving in the right direction.

I’m also attempting Second-Hand September! I’m really proud of how well I’m doing for it. I haven’t bought any brand new clothes at all so far this month. Any clothes I have bought have been either from going charity shopping in Glastonbury with Elena, or off Depop. (For more tips on second-hand shopping on Depop, I even wrote a post).

So yeah, life right now is pretty good!
